Experiences in polyester texturing with short heater

A statistical test design was run in order to determine sensitive process parameters for the false-twist texturing of continuous filament polyester on short heater machines. Using 167 dtex, 36 filament and 76 dtex, 36 filament Diolen yarn, the effect on yarn elongation, tenacity, hot air shrinkage and crimp was studied with respect to the temperature of the heater plate zones. The importance of controlling yarn temperature at the exit of the heater and at the entrance of the friction aggregate is emphasised. Future requirements for texturing yarns are expected to be increased automation, reduced heater cleaning and increased process speed.
