Temco's Twistor Evaluation System continuously measures the quality of tire cord during production and triggers the doffing operation when a predetermined running length has been attained. The typical installation comprises eight Twistor systems connected to a central communications box that is interfaced with a personal computer. Rollers guide the yarn into a wear resistant scanning cylinder, which generates an analog signal that is digitized and analyzed by system software. An integrated Hall sensor, which is insensitive to yarn contamination, determines the running length. The system records yarn defects and displays quality data on the computer monitor. An alarm activates if defect levels exceed a predetermined level.
