A presentation at Clemson University's October 1984 Tire Technology Conference describes the basic processing techniques relevant to the preparation or conversion of tire cords and fabrics from Kevlar yarns, including basic considerations related to cord construction selection, the twisting and weaving processes, and the combined operations of hot stretching and adhesive a application. Kevlar, a highly flexible aramid yarn, offers strength per unit weight and tensile modulus in excess of those provided by steel wire or glass without the limitations imposed by the stiffness or brittleness of inorganic materials. 10 refs.
