Predicting processing characteristics of cotton and the yarn properties

In this study use is made of cotton types currently on the German market which are spun within Germany. These include varieties from Central Asia, Russia, Nicaragua, Israel, Cameroon, Argentina, USA, Greece and Burkina Faso. It is found that high bundle strength indicates highy yarn strength, low raw cotton maturity often leads to a higher nep content; an increased short fibre content correlates with low yarn strength; and fibre length distribution in the raw material does not correspound to the fibre length distribution the yarn. Most testing instruments generate repeatable results if maintained and calibrated according to the manufacturer's manual.
