Researchers studied the shape changes and lack of constancy in the angular position of the yarn balloon at a given rail height. Researchers concluded that the most significant factors in yarn balloon variability are variances in yarn appearance, such as changes in diameter, hairiness, and surface of the yarn. The smaller variation in yarn balloon radius implied that the variability in linear density is smaller than that associated with yarn appearance. Researchers concluded that a yarn balloon in short staple yarn spinning is not stable and that there are continuous changes in its shape.
