Researchers investigated the properties of polyester/rayon yarns produced by varying the feed ratio, ribbon width, and distance between the first nozzle and the nip of the front roller. Polyester/rayon blended 19.6 tex yarns prepared on a Murata air jet spinning machine produced nine samples for evaluation. An Instron tensile tester measured yarn tenacity and breaking extension. An Uster evenness tester recorded yarn unevenness and imperfections. A weighted ring yarn stiffness tester measured the yarn flexural rigidity using the ring loop method. Results indicated that changing the distance between the first nozzle and the nip front roller barely affected the breaking strength and breaking extension of the sample yarns, but increased the flexural rigidity and elastic recovery. These two properties increased with an increase in ribbon width and feed ratio. 7 refs.
