To optimize blending and avoid micronaire variation, analysts recommend that manufacturers know the properties of each cotton bale selected, seek a less than 0.2 difference in micronaire average between laydowns, use multi-cell mixers and blending machines, and develop a set procedure for blending. Avoiding yarn count variation will help manufacturers maintain consistency throughout the yarn manufacturing process, control fiber properties, ensure homogenous blending, control and maintain carding and drawing sliver weights, and use blending techniques to increase leveling. To avoid yarn twist variation, manufacturers should keep twist variation under 5 percent, consistently maintain and monitor spinning machinery, and avoid mixing yarn lots on knitting or weaving machinery.
