Innovatex Engineering Co. of Hungary have patented a method for producing a blend yarn with a linen character using low-cost secondary flax and flax waste. The different flax tows and waste are subjected to mechanical treatments in a loose or tensioned state which shortens them considerably, splits them lengthwise thereby making them finer, and removes the different, often severe impurities (dust and shives). An abbreviated spinning method is used. The flax component appears primarily in the sheath of the yarn. Cotton/flax waste and synthetic fibre (polyester, acrylic, nylon) flax waste yarns have been produced. There are no problems weaving with these yarns either in the warp or the weft. If lubricated properly, they can also be processed on circular and flat knitting machines.
