Effect of fibre and yarn parameters on fly and nep formation of cotton ring and rotor (OE) yarns

The research work published on the linting (fibrous fly) and nepping of cotton ring and rotor open-end-spun yarns is reviewed (79 references) and the ways in which linting can be reduced are summarized. There is still some uncertainty concerning the effects of the various cotton fibre properties on yarn linting and nepping for yarn varying in linear denisty and twist. It was with a view to addressing and clarifying these issues that a study was undertaken involving a total of more than 400 ring and rotor yarns spun from some 58 different cotton lots. Results are presented and discussed.
