Warp yarn quality and sizing are the two major factors influencing the weavability of warp yarn. Earlier studies at ATIRA have shown that count strength product (CSP) is a good integrated index of yarn quality and correlates well with the warp breakage rate in weaving. This paper presents experimental results of five cotton yarns of 40s count sized at two levels of add-on where the CSP of the yarns has been seen to correlate fairly well with their weavability as measured by the Reutlingen Web Tester. The results show how the SCP of grey yarn is a good indicator of weavability, even after sizing.
