Wet-processing effluents from the treatment of carpet yarns are examined. it is found that the effluents are only mildly toxic, and then only when mothproofing is carried out from the second bowl or when excessive dye bleeding occurs. This effluent is essentially non-biodegradable. Measures for establishing discharge limits for effluents, especially those of the mothproofing variety, are discussed. It is suggested that the focus should be on the minimization of waste rather than its treatment. There are 19 references.
