Cover spun yarns are made by wrapping untwisted staple fibers with an end of continuous manmade filament. An experimental apparatus consisting of a hollow spindle, a take-up unit, and a spindle drive was used to produce wrapped yarns composed of a cotton staple and a polyeste wrap. The tensile, bending, shear, surface, compression, thickness, and weight characteristics of fabrics made from these yarns were determined. The U percentage of the wrap spun yarns was better than that of cotton yarns. The wrap spun woven fabric exhibited good extensibility, bending rigidity, and increased fabric weight and stiffness.
