Experiments using a high-temperature heater have demonstrated that the duration of heating during false twist crimping can be shortened considerably. The temperature of the heater should not be allowed to exceed 7000 degrees Centigrade because undesirable temperature differences between the surface and core of the heated yarn will occur above this threshold, and higher temperatures will adversely affect the appearance of dyed fabric. Shortening the crimping zone was shown to improve process stability. A maximum length of 1 meter is adequate for crimping coarse yarns at high speeds. 9 refs.
