The technical and physical processes involved in the stitch-forming processes on warp-knittin machines are examined. Special attention is devoted to the effect of yarn properties on the yarn tension rod/bar. Yarn tension, take-up tension and yarn tension rod movement are measured for various yarns. Details are given of trials carried out on 84 and 126", 28 gauge warp knitting machines at speeds of up to approximately 2600 courses/min producing different constructions. With otherwise good processing characteristics in terms of abrasion, strength, hairiness, thick/thin places, the knitting speed is particularly influenced by slackening ends in the selvedge zone.
