Measurement of Resilience Properties of Carpet Yarn.

Resiliency is typically measured in terms of carpets. This research project aims to develop a method for testing the resiliency of pile yarns. The method will test the quality of pile yarns after spinning and assist in the selection of pile yarns to manufacture carpets. Its ultimate goal is to develop new carpet yarns with improved resiliency. After developing the test method to measure the viscoelastic properties of pile yarns, researchers will design a sample production plan to produce carpet samples with a range of selected yarns and carpet construction parameters. Results of the yarn tests will be analyzed using statistical techniques, which will lead to the relationship between yarn properties and carpet resiliency, the relationship between carpet construction parameters and carpet resiliency, and the selection of a test method for measuring resiliency of yarns.
