Spinnability of Gara-bo spun silk yarn (Japanese)

Gara-bo yarn has begun to attract growing attention. There have been very few reports on the yarn-marking mechanism of the Gara-bo spinning frame or of Gara-bo spun silk yarn. In order to consider the feasibility of using this spinning techique in the making of spun silk yarn with additional desirable attributes, the spinnability of the Gara-bo spinning system was examined, with regard to the mean fiber length of raw material. The following observations were made. When the thickness and the amount of silk yarn produced are taken into consideration, the optimal values for the total weight of fibers and fiber length of the raw material are decided according to the stuffer tube used; the fiber length of the raw material is one of the essential factors affecting the number of gripped fibers at the yarn formation point.
