A mobile automatic doffing system improved the spandex drawing-in process. The system consisted of an automatic yarn draw-in apparatus capable of processing spandex in the upper and lower spindles simultaneously. The machine was mounted on a wheeled vehicle that ran in contact with the covering machine. Drawing-in operations used very fine denier spandex (30D, 70D, and 140D). The automatic machine performed with greater than 90 percent success using an ejector air pressure of 0.5 megapascal and an injector air pressure of 0.4 megapascal. Feed speeds of 1,000 millimeters per second resulted in higher rates of success for 70D and 140D spandex for a given air pressure than did feed speeds of 800 millimeters per second. 2 refs.
