Vetrotex's Twintex rovings consist of continuous glass filaments and a thermoplastic material distributed homogeneously. Fiber contents vary from 20-65 percent. The roving converts easily into a finished composite via heating and pressing. The original Twintex roving was made with a polypropylene matrix. It now comes with a polyester matrix for applications that require better heat and mechanical resistance. Vetrotex produces approximately 4,000 tons per year of Twintex. Twintex can also be used in knit and woven fabrics, multilayer plates, and braids. It can be used in the same manufacturing processes (thermoforming-stamping, compression molding, and vacuum molding) as thermosets, but the resin reticulation phase is replaced by heating and cooling phases.
