High performance automobile tires require high quality manmade cord reinforcement to withstand heavy loads and repeated deformation. typical tire construction includes a carcass, breaker, tread, side walls, and bead. The carcass consists of 4-24 layers of cord fabric. Rubberized cord fabric uses twisted cord yarns (viscose, nylon, or polyester) in the warp and cotton yarns in the weft. The major requirements for tire cord yarns include high breaking strength, high elasticity, good heat resistance, and good adhesion with rubber. Barmag AG's spinning, winding, and direct cabling machines facilitate the manufacture of high performance tire cord yarn. New direct cabling methods should replace conventional two stage yarn twisting. The Barmag AC-10 direct cabling machine is efficient and manufacturers highly symmetrical yarns. 5 refs.
