Polyester/viscose blend fabrics outperform polyester/cotton blend fabrics in some application because viscose fibers have the advantages of high moisture absorbency (11.5-16.6 percent), low static charge, dust-free processing, low waste levels, a wide range of available staple fiber lengths and fineness, controllable luster, easier wet processing, high color billiance, color washfastness, and stress-strain behavior compatible with that of polyester fibers. For optimal spinning of polyester/viscose staple yarns, manufactuers should adopt wider backbone settings (65 millimeters) and frequent cleaning and lubrication of the rolls to suppress vibration. For 50/1 polyester/viscose blends, varying the staple lengths of the mixing fibers (44 millimeters for viscose and 51 millimeters for polyester fibers) suppresses the detrimental effects of short frequency irregularities. 3 refs.
