Researchers used a tracer fiber technique to characterize the structure and migration parameters of polyester (dry and wet textured), nylon (wet textured), and polypropylene (wet textured) air jet textured yarns. Measurements included bulk, loop size, instability, loop frequency, tenacity, breaking elongation, and initial modulus for air jet textured yarns manufactured at different air pressures. Migration was highest in wet textured polyester yarns, followed by wet textured polypropylene and nylon yarns. Physical bulk, loop frequency, and initial modulus increased as migration parameters increased, whereas tenacity, instability, and breaking elongation decreased. 10 refs.
