Effect of yarn twist on the surface appearance of worsted fabric. I. Crinkling mechanism of wool crepe fabric and yarn twisting conditions (Japanese)

To investigate how the twist of constituent yarns affect the formation of crinkles on worsted fabrics in the finishing process we made an apparatus that enabled detection of the untwisting touque and shrinking force generated in a single yarn immersed in hot water. From the results, we could verify the following facts: in the finishing of high twist worsted, the constitutent yarns undergo tortional buckling due to the untwisting torque released by hot water treatment and forming spirals in phase to which causes wavy crinkles on the fabric; and the shapes assumed by the yarns in the fabrics are approximately based on the crimped and buckled form of the weft yarn, which can be numerically estimated from the ratio of shrink in weft and warp yarn denisty.
