Results indicate that dynamic testing does not supply the same amount of information as a static tensile test, but that it is a fast way of obtaining reliable information on the mechanical properties of yarns. It is shown that the dynamic tensile strength can be calculated from the results of a static tensile test. The dynamic tensile test is proved to be a good method for the fast routine monitoring of yarns. Monte Carlo simulation indicates that differences in the coefficient of friction will influence the dynamic tensile strength. The method also enables knitting needles and yarn guides to be compared as regards frictional behabiour.
