Mitsubishi Rayon Develops chitosan containing acrylic staple fiber

Japanese company, Mitsubishi Rayon, has developed an acrylic staple fibre which incorporates ultrafine particles of chitosan. The chitosan is kneaded into the acrylic fibre so does not become dislodgedduring finishing processes. This gives the fibre a good antibacterial property which is retained after fifty washings. Hand and dyeability are unaffected by the added chiotsan. Socks, underwear and carpets are envisaged as application areas.
