Tension of unwinding thread

A reserch study has been carried out into the changes in tension that occur as a yarn is unwound from a cheese which can effect efficiencies in rewinding, wapring and weft insertion. Yarn was unwound from different cheeses at a speed of 400 m/min. and the tension variations recorded using a very sensitive tensometer. The effect on the tension o a number of variables was assessed including the shape and size of the cheese, the characteristics of the yarn and the form and size of the balloon.
