the paper describes the development of a small scale spinning unit in india. this development grew out of attempts to improve the khadi hand spinning technology when it was realized that it was at an economic standstill. a 432 spinning unit has been developed which can produce 20s count yarn of a quality acceptable to the cottage weavers, at a competitive price. this unit has great potential for further technical development to improve the quality and range of yarn that can be spun. the measures needed to carry this out are discussed at length
