to study the influence of cotton fiber properties on ring and rotor spun yarn hairiness, the authors used three different instruments to measure the same yarn series: the digital itqt hairiness tester, the shirley hairiness meter, and the new zweigle g 565 instrument. based on experimental data, the following conclusions are drawn: for ring spun yarns, the fiber properties exert a variable effect on the yarns hairiness that is inversely related to yarn linear density. on the whole, the overall effect explained by the fiber properties in terms of r**2 can be estimated at less than 10 for coarse yarns and up to 40 for fine yarns. for rotor spun yarns, the effect does not depend on the yarn linear density and can be estimated up to 40. 7 refs
