an experiment was conducted to test the zweigle hairiness tester on the yarn series previously examined with the shirley hairiness meter, and a similar statistical analysis was undertaken by applying the technique of backward regression analysis. the most important results are presented in tabular form. results show that, for ring-spun yarns, the linear density plays a very important role concerning the effect of fibre properties on yarn hairiness. this effect is inversely related to the yarn linear density, and, for coarse yarns, the over-all effect explained by the fibre parameters is very low (around 5), whereas, for fine yarns, it can reach values of around 40. regression equations are significant (at the 1 level) only for 15-tex yarns. 8 refs
