A porous fibre can be made by melt-spinning a mixture of polyolefin resin and paraffin wax, stretching the fibres and then heattreating them to remove the wax. According to the inventor the fibres that are produced are chemically stable and can incorporate a variety of absorbents. They can be used in filters for removing substances dissolved or dispersed in a liquid or they can incorporate a deodorant. Porous fibres have been produced before using acrylics but have suffered form a number of disadvantages, for instance they are difficult to card - olefin fibres do not suffer from these disadvantages.
