The use of two Zweigle yarn testers, the G565 Hairiness Meter and the G555 Staff Tester, allowed the clarification of some aspects of hairiness in ring spun, rotor spun, and friction spun polyester/cotton yarns, including yarn attrition and loss of matter through yarn self-rubbing. These phenomena were influenced by blend composition, the spinning process, and spinning parameters. Loss of weight was greatest in friction spun yarn; however, when yarn linear density or yarn twist increased, the loss of weight decreased. Loss of weight also decreased when the polyester content of the blend increased. 19 refs.
