Two yarn parameters, total number of hairs/meter and the number of hairs/meter exceeding 3 millimeters, were related to fiber characteristics in 214 ring and rotor spun yarns using the Zweigle G 565 hairiness meter. Fiber length, variability, and the micronaire index proved to have greater implications on yarn hairiness than fiber properties. Linear yarn density played a more important role in ring spun yarn than in rotor spun yarns. 9 refs.
