Results from three yarn hairiness testers, the Digital ITQT, the Shirley Hairiness Meter, and the Zweigle G565 confirmed the influence of fiber properties on the hairiness parameters of a series of ring and rotor spun yarns. The effect was not the same for ring spun and rotor spun yarns; yarn linear density played a role for ring spun yarns, but not for rotor spun yarns. The influence on the overall R2 effect varied from 10 to 40 percent for ring spun yarns and up to 40 percent for rotor spun yarns. Length was the most important fiber parameter, followed by the uniformity ratio for ring spun yarns and micronaire for rotor spun yarns. 19refs.
