Models for relating yarn fineness, twist, and diameter are either imprecise (Kochlin theory) or difficult to apply at the mill level (the physical theory of Hearle, Treloar, and Neckar). Researchers developed a mathematical model for describing the relationship between yarn fineness, twist, and diameter that accounts for the relationship between force and deformation due to fiber material compression yet is easy to apply in practice. Due to its consideration of internal yarn mechanics, the model agrees well with experimental results. 8 refs.
