Evaluation of yarn packing fraction function requires diameter and linear density data streams from the same position along the yarn. Initial analysis includes graphing of the data in sequence. Data characterization begins with computation of such elementary statistics as distribution, statistical moments, and minimum and maximum values. Histograms facilitate the specification and determination of population distributions of the data streams. Intermediate analysis requires examination of amplitude spectra obtained from fast Fourier transforms for isolating extraneous signals, dominant or diluted data components, and small or large component variations. Elementary population statistics and distributions and intermediate analyses of the spectral correlation characteristics provide comparisons of predicted and actual measured values.
