The desire to maintain the sliver attenuation and fibre parallelisation processes necessary for producing fine yarns while producing a distinctive, self-contained nep yarn with good nep attachment means a degree of compromise is needed. Recently impetus has been generated for reaching the ideal solution of incorporating neps immediately before the yarn forming stage. In trials though, inadequate nep-bind has hampered progress. The structure of the sliver is also frequently unsatisfactory. Introducing neps into drawframe slivers likewise has not brought success. The nep to fibre attachment can not be achieved and nep isolation and rejection can also occur. The answer in traditional fine spinning lies in meaningful improvement and development of existing methods of spinning.
