Experiments used an add-on module on the Uster Tensojet to calculate the stress-strain curves for weak points in rotor spun yarns. Based on a macroscopic analysis of break points, tensile testing reconstructed the deformation experienced by the yarn under load, enabling the interpretation of breaking behavior caused by weak points introduced during spinning. The add-on module permitted accurate, reliable sampling of broken ends from the rotor spun yarns. Preliminary tests with deliberately introduced weak points indicated that interpretation of the causes of yarn defects was possible by break point analysis. A table relates the type of defect to the characteristic appearance of the yarn break.
