Researchers derived a formula to predict the yarn strength of polyester yarns based on fiber tensile strength, fiber bundle strength, and yarn unevenness. The strength realization percentage of fibers is a simple ratio relating yarn strength to the average strength of component fibers contained in the yarn cross section and is a measure of the efficiency of the translation of fiber strength into yarn strength. Statistical analysis of polyester fibers and yarns indicated that strength could be predicted with an accuracy approaching 100 percent. 6 refs.
