Cotton/nylon, core-spun yarns were prepared at different twist multiplier under controlled pretension of the core without changing the double rove feeding, filament disposition, spindle feed, and traveler count. The hairiness of the core-spun yarn, made of a nylon core and a J-34 cotton sheath, was compared to equivalent 100 percent cotton ring-spun yarn. Hairiness of the yarns was studied in terms of short protruding ends and loops. A controlled pre-tension of the filament core improved the hairiness of core-spun yarns. 35 refs.
