SOME FACTORS AFFECTING THE HAIRINESS OF POLYESTER BLEND YARNS.

The causes and remedies for hairiness in polyester blend yarns were studied. Poor ring frame condition due to traveler flutter, which is caused by improper matching of the traveler with the ring and high levels of humidity in ring spinning, were found to be the causes of excess hairiness from bobbin to bobbin were found to be a result of disturbance to spindle centering caused under working conditions. Remedial measures include the following: The application of BTRA ring cleaner and lubricant to rings, the use of new rings, the use of fresh travelers, and attention to spindle centering. Reductions of hairiness of up to 67 percent are reported. 7 refs.
