Fancy or effect yarns are used frequently in apparel and upholstery fabrics and in handknitting. These yarns are classified according to the most significant parameters that control production. For example, raising is critical in the production of fluffy bulk yarns; blend preparation for nub yarns; and carding for ombre yarns. Properties such as linear density, bulk coefficient, and color content are noted for souffle, ombre, and woolen yarns. This classification is used to improve reproducibility and facilitate the design of new yarns. 1 ref.
