High modular filament carbon yarns are tested to analyze their behavior in the manufacture of composites. Samples are tested for tensile strength, flexibility, friction and abrasion, abrasion and loss of fiber, and broken filaments. Low flexibility is a critical problems. Processes, such as braiding and winding, are optimized according to the results of these test. For example, a tension control device is developed or braiding machines where drawing-off is tangential 8 refs.
