Experiments with the Shirley Hairiness Meter revealed that fiber parameters explained less than 50 percent of the effect of yarn hairiness in ring and rotor-spun yarns, and that length and uniformity effected hairiness most. A test using the German Zweigle G565 Hairiness Meter found that with ring spun yarns, linear density affected hairiness, and with rotor spun yarns, fiber parameters had little bearing on hairiness unless the fibers were coarse. The results the influence of fiber properties on yarn hairiness were lower for the Zweigle Machine. 8 refs.
