Formulas for yarn load, extension, and initial specific modulus of an ideal twisted multifilament yarn--relative to the properties of the component filaments--are derived using an approach that treats yarn tension as a function of extrusion. Predictions based on these formulas agreed better with experimental data on nylon and polyester twisted multifilament yarns than did the predictions arising from earlier approaches. 7 refs.
