Cottons varying in trash content were studied under different processing conditions. The effect of carding rates, combing, and mechanical clearing were examined relative to yarn quality and evaluated with the Uster Classimat II. OMS and SKF drafting systems were used in the experiments on carding rates. Combing and mechanical clearing tend to reduce yarn faults, and high trash content and carding rates are detrimental. 9 refs.
