The effect of filament fineness on the structure and properties of air jet textured yarns was examined. Yarns with varying dtex per filament and equal cross-section, type of finish, and number of filaments were studied. Interfilament friction levels were comparable. An Eltex AT/HS air texturing machine was used with an LB-02 Hemajet and T100 core. Structure was characterized with projection microscopy. The configuration of loops and loop height and length were also noted. Instability and physical bulk, tension at the exit nozzle, unevenness, and friction were measured. 9 refs.
