In 1999, India exported 534.83 million kilograms of cotton yarn to account for 22 percent of the world market and become the world's largest exporter of cotton yarn. Indian yarn manufacturers use the latest processing technologies. Such companies as Amit Spinning Industries Limited and Spentex Industries Limited have ISO 9002 certification. The government sponsored Technology Upgradation Fund offers loans to manufacturers to facilitate technology and machinery upgrades. The fund has received 48 applications from the spinning industry.
