Open end rotor and friction spinning machines manufactured jute blend yarns of lower counts at higher production rates than conventional flyer spinning machines. An investigation of the behavior of rotor and friction spun jute blend yarns under tensile deformation showed that tensile and viscoelastic properties depended on fiber alignment and the noncompatibility of the tensile properties of component fibers. Fiber stress and relaxation and rearrangement of fiber segments within deformed yarn may affect the time dependent stress relaxation of yarn. Rotor spun jute blend yarns exhibited superior tensile properties to those of friction spun jute blend yarns. Friction spinning yielded highly entangled and variously oriented fiber helices, resulting in a more elastic yarn. 21 refs.
