Effect of Twist on Air-Jet & Ring Yarns.

Researchers studied the influence of ply twist and twist direction on the structural and mechanical properties of air jet and ring spun viscose yarns. In cross sections of single air jet yarns, the packing density of various zones decreased from the core to the outer surface. In ring spun yarns, packing density first increased from the center out and then decreased toward the outer surface. Radial packing density decreased from core to surface for all plied yarns. Overall packing density was higher in the ring spun yarns than in the air jet spun yarns. After doubling, overall packing density increased for all yarns except ring spun yarns plied in the reverse direction. Radial packing density decreased in most of the zones for ring spun yarn plied in the S direction. S-twist ring spun yarns showed greater tenacity than Z-twist ring spun yarns. Ring spun yarns showed greater tenacity than air jet spun yarns. 5 refs.
