Wire rolling with simultaneous drawing or chill block melt extrusion manufactures flat metallic yarns. An investigation into the suitability of flat metallic yarns for weaving determined the linear mass, tensile strength, and elongation at break of flat metallic yarns of amorphous alloys obtained by casting. The most important problems in flat metallic yarn processing include obtaining high quality casted strips, preparation of suitable beams for warp and weft feeding, and development of appropriate processing equipment for looms. 9 refs.
