Analysis of Fiber-Particle-Airflow Interaction and Its Application to teh Development of a Novel Card-Spinning System.

Researchers are analyzing the motion dynamics of fiber clumps and other particles in an air flow field to develop a single-stage process for converting fiber batts directly into yarns. Computational fluid dynamics, experimental analysis, and fluid flow visualization using high speed videography elucidate the fiber opening and cleaning processes. A carding machine with multiple spinning heads eliminates the drawing process and replaces the equivalent of a conventional carding machine, two drawing machines, and yarn spinning machines. A prototype fabric monitoring, splitting, and transport device will be installed on the carding machine.
